I am a beginner.  I intend to go the range with my hawkin for sighting/practice
It is my understanding that black powder can fowl a barrel very quickly.  
 
How many shots can I get off before I must clean the gun?

I have an older break action .410 that my uncle used when he was young.  I was
thinking of using it to get my daughter started on squirrl or rabbit.  In my state one
is only allowed to use non-toxic shot on those kinds of game.  
 
What does the group think of useing steel or other nontoxic shot on an older break-
action .410?

I am new to hunting. I am wondering if anyone has any wisdom on a little
problem that I have.
 
I usually shoot left handed because my right eye is not nearly as good as
my left one. (I am also left eye dominate.)
 
My hawkin and every flintlock or procussion cap gun that I have seen fitted
to shoot right handed. Shooting right handed is possible for me but difficult
and I do not have the money for a truly custom gun. What do you think?
 
I also have a corolary question: Why don't more individuals and gun
companies have and sell left handed weapons? It is my understanding that
often right handed individuals are left eyed. Are some left eye dominate
shooters simply being sloppy in their form?

I see that most of the comentary is from mid-western states. Here in Delaware everything I have seen is that hunting is on the decline.
 
1. We are an increasingly urban/suburban society.
 
2. The nearest gun ranges are 45 minutes to an hour away (and that one is an indoor pistol range).
 
3. Many suburban areas have a strong cultural bias against guns and hunting.
 
4. There are tons of deer because all of their land is being developed.  I Hate to see the open areas go.
 
I will look and see if I can find some statistics but this is what I have read and experienced.
