Rick, I have to agree with Jdub. Juvenile & female redtail hawks look almost identical & sometimes are larger than ma[es. As males matue they devlop reddish/brown breast. The reddish/brown color is feathers that look like streaks. The older the bird the darker the breast looks. A four foot wingspan redtail is not uncommon. I'll try to attach an old picture of Bum & his mate. .....Paul H

Biden is too busy with munsane things to get involved in the matter. Congress is too busy trying to teach Biden to recite Mary Had a Little Lamb. .......Paul H

I hear you, Rick. Russia, unlike the USA, has a government & a mentally capable leader. What good is sanctions against Russia anyway?  ......Paul H

Most Schutzen type rifles were  not designed for hunting & are about as useless for this purpose as a milk bucket under a bull. The design of the stock usually only allows aligning the sights or scope with the gun in a horizonal position. It doesn't allow much leeway otherwise. ......Paul H

THE CAMPFIRE / INSECT FROM HELL
February 22, 2022, 09:27:27 AM
This insect is usuallycalled the red velvet ant or cow killer ant. Actually, it is neither one. It is a female wingless wasp. The males have wings. They're  mostly found in the eastern part of the USA. Fairly common in SE Kentucky where I grew up. We called them rubber ants becaause you could stomp one & it would just keep crawling. They could sting you from any position. They had the most painful sting I ever felt. More like being bitten by a copperhead snake. They could do it over & over. Never seemed to run out of venom. ........My guess is the reason they got the moniker m
cow killer ant was because if someone found a dead cow in the field, there was usually several red velvet "ants" feeding on it. Rednecks just assumed ants killed it. .......They're beautiful insects but I suppose  the bright coloring is a warning.  DON'T TOUCH ME & DON'T STEP ON ME BAREFOOT. .......Paul H  ....

[I just re read my last post on this thread & see an error I made. I said APEX bullet company. It should have been A-Square bullet company. My bad. Apex is a gun company. Got too much stuff in my head & it gets mixed up sometimes I suppose. Stuff happens. .........Paul H

In my opinion SAAMI is like all our politicians. .......FOR SALE. I have no respect  for them whatsoever. They deserve none. Look what they did to APEX bullet company when they submitted spec's for the 6.5 APEX cartridge. Obviously, they held it up until Remington could submit spec's for the 260 Remington cartridge then denied APEX the design specifications. Something stinks there. ......Paul H

Soon as I first saw this topic, I suspected I was a target.   :D .....Caught me just when I'm having real problems seeing.       I do like high speed & small calibers but not magnums of any sort. Never owned a gun in my life that used belted cartridges. I have never hunted any animal that required magnum energy. To me, anything over 28 caliber is big bore. Most of the deer & bear I've killed have been killed with 17 and 22 calibers with one shot each. That includes one buttonhead buck at a distance of 418 lasered yards using a 22-6mm AI & 80 grain Sierra Match King bullet. Most of my shots were 100 yards or less. Foot poundss of energy means little on deer or black bear if the shot is well placed. I think Catlin's deer & her choice of cartridge & shooting skill pretty well closes any argument on caliber & power. .......Paul H
