I think it would be a great round in the XP-100 if they still made the dang thing.

and have been looking around a bit since then.
I live in MN but do most my hunting in MT, mostly for antelope. Sometimes those little furry rodents get in the way of a bullet, but usually only once.
Although I have a Remington 700 in .270 I've been using Mil-surplus for hunting. Mostly a 96 Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55 and just added a Mosin Nagant sniper in 7.62x54r. Stll working on a hunting load for the Nagant.

I would go with the Savage myself. The NEF is nice but with the shells being smaller a bolt would be easier to work with in the field.
