BOWHUNTING / Bow sights?
July 31, 2014, 05:03:35 PM
Just picked up a Mathews zxt from a local shop and now have a new  dilemma.. sights. The guy at Halls archery showed me plenty of  styles/configurations then ended with "it's mainly preference" which now  makes my decision harder. People have been saying they went from  multipin to single pin and would never go back, others say only multipin  for them..

Well, this will be my first season bow hunting and I'm getting  everything ready. I live up here in new england, CT to be exact, if that  matters. I looked into CBE, spot hogg, HHA and a few others (tru-glo  but someone said it's horrible and would never recommend anything from  them)

What do you guys think?

BOWHUNTING / Show us Your Hunting Arrows This Year!
July 31, 2014, 04:56:15 PM
So I haven't shot a single arrow since the GTG.  I've been busy scouting  and hanging stands in my spare time and haven't really spent any time  shooting or thinking about gear.  I've got OCD pretty bad this year in  regards to bow season, worse than I can remember for years.......so  tonight I decided to start getting my setup together and look through  what I had in the man cave to start building some hunting arrows.

I still have a small mountain of arrows laying around from when I shot a  lot.  I forgot about a couple dozen still in the shrink wrap VForce V1  300's and a bunch of Muzzy 100gr brass inserts I had in the arrow box.  Plugged things into OT2 and I ended up building a half dozen with  feathers and a half dozen with 4 fletch Blazers.  Not sure which I like  more but I'll probably shoot them this weekend a bit and see which I  decide on.

So what are you shooting this year?

BOWHUNTING / Can you wash arrows?
July 31, 2014, 04:50:10 PM
Some one I hunt with asked me this last night while shooting. Once and a  while we miss the target and have a wood pile behind our blocks. The  arrows will get dirt on out arrows can you wash them off,or will this  compromize the arrow.

BOWHUNTING / Shooting with both eyes open?
July 31, 2014, 04:45:30 PM
I've always shot closing my non-dominant eye and have never tried  shooting with both eyes open.  I'm thinking of giving it a go once the  new bow gets in, putting a 1/4" peep sight on it since the housing on  the G5 Optix XR2 is a bit larger and figuring with the slightly bigger  peep site to try with both open.  Anyone here shoot with both eyes open,  any tips or advice?

BOWHUNTING / My New Rig
July 31, 2014, 04:39:13 PM
Well new to me anyway. It's a 2008 Diamond Marquis.  My father bought it  brand new back in 08 and after last season he decided he's done  hunting. He asked me if I wanted his bow and of course I said "HELL  YEAH".

Not only is it new to me but it literally had had only about 50 shots  through it before it came into my possession. So it is pretty much new  new in that sense aswell.

I really like my 2012 Bear Legion and always will but this bow just  seems to shoot better for me and feels amazing in the hand. So yesterday  I swapped my NAP Apache rest off of my Bear and put it on the Marquis  and it shoots amazing.
So does anyone still shoot this bow or had in the past? If so, what was or is your opinion of it?

Still gonna do some things to it but here she is as of now.

BOWHUNTING / What happened to Bowtech?
July 31, 2014, 04:34:14 PM
Is it just me or has bowtech somewhat fallen off the map a touch? Go  back 5 years and Bowtech was a hot item to have. People were talking  about them. People were showing them off. You saw their advertising.

Today, I hardly ever hear of people talking about their bows. I hardly  see any advertising for them but admittedly I have not been looking  either.

So is my perspective off here or did Bowtech seem to take a back seat to other bow manufactures?

They may just be some burgers that have been fixed on the grill with  some white American cheese, but they are delicious nonetheless!
