At first light.....
Geese noisely winging along the Mississippi river as I stalk in to my
Gorilla deer stand in the thick buck brush, at the edge of the oak thicket.
I'd watched whitetail doe movement the past few days, thru there..I've yet
to see a respectable buck & decided to put some doe meat in the freezer..
I'm allowed 2 this week as it is muzzleloader season..I've got my 45 inline,
iron sights...I'm expecting a chip shot but as my does show up, they are
further out than I'd expected...I line-up on the breadbasket of a good'n
about 80 yrds out, take me a relaxed breath and slowly squeeze on'er...
BANG---Smoke-----------Can't see---------deer scrambling in confusion...
I wait a spell...Let things settle down and mark the area where my deer
was at..A tall sapling leaning to the left and slightly beyond.....Reload....
Untether my safety harness and ease down out of my stand...Apply
another 209 primer....Cautiously bee-line to the spot....I reach the area
and...NO DEER!...I re-examine and evaluate my location...I start to feel
the frustation of defeat when I spot a drop of rich red blood..emotional
moment...It leads to a nice blood trail and 50 yrds or so, on out, I find
her in a shallow depression where a large tree once stood...I drag her a
peice further before field dressing her....checked her in....Home by 9:30..
It's my 2nd this season...I resume the search for BIG BOY tomorrow.....

Here's another I got yesterday morning and it was a chip-shot at about
40 yrds....Small doe, I'm thinking Bar-b-que when I squeeze on her......
She ran around and actually fell within 25 yrds of me in plain veiw...I
could see the large hole in her should as she ran by...pictured where she
fell, my stand is in the background....I remained in my stand and contin-
ued hunting another 2 hrs. but saw nothing more....
Ya know, alot of people wanna shoot bigger gr. bullets and 150 grain
powder but 80 grain of loose triple 7, and 175 gr.  home-cast bullets
seem to work just fine on whitetail deer, to me......................BH51...................

Wow, way to go BH. That land looks so different than what I am used to hunting. Sounds like you are certainly having fun, glad to see it. How many deer are you aloud. Apparently Maine seems to be the only state that allows one (lol). God Bless brother.

This off hand and at the end of the day. About 8 inch pattern. The gun will do much better than this I was just getting lousy about that time.

I do not have any eveidence but I believe she will hold 3" at 100 most any day.

It seems to depend on the gun and what each one shoots best. I use 100 grain of powder and a 145 caliber. Been told it would shoot 150 grains of powder better but just never tried. It kicks good enough and shoots good enough for me with this set up.

Congrats on the second one too BH51!!!!!! :hat:

Well, lets see....Archery we're allowed 2 bucks & 4 does
             Muzzleloader...2 bucks & 4 does
Rifle....2 bucks, & this year 6 non-quota does, in my county..
          That's a total of 20 deer.....season ends Jan.6th...........BH51.................

 Ha, ha, ha....Don't be sick davidt, most all the Southeastern states
got some pretty good deer limits like that...You should come on down
some times and get you some of'em....I generally get 3 to 6 deer each
year for about 25 years now...My  freezer is nearly full...Might have
to toss some veggies before the fat lady sings...

Alboy, that's some good shoot'n your doing, off hand like that...Seems
like I alway get caught having to shoot off-hand so it definately pays to
to shoot often without a prop, in my opinion....

Yea Antler3, I agree...I used to shoot a 50 cal CVA inline and it was
happy with 100 grain trip 7  pellets and Hornady sabots..........BH51....

I may take you up on that offer someday, so don't tempt me. I could tag out every year if we had doe tags where we are. People brag that our deer our "big" up here, but I would rather shoot 9 small ones than one big one anyday. Our season is really short also, archery in oct, and rifle in nov, 1 week of muzzleloader. If you get a deer in any one of those seasons, you are done. Keep going and post us some more pictures. You are giving antler3 a run for her money(lol). God Bless.

Good stuff!

Looks like my kinda hardwoods. I'd bet there are - or at least once were - plenty of squirrels in those woods.

Matter of fact Paul, it's exactly the same location I took the limit
of 10, back on Halloween as posted  (Squirrel Hunt)...Still plenty of
squirrels, wild turkeys too...I think there's 16,000 acre in that Mgmt
area....Here's another doe I took this evening, a big'un, 150 lb. neck
shot with my lil CVA...The smoke in the background is actually the
smoke from the shot still lingering....my stand is some 75 yrds back
in there, in tha smoke....drop't her in her tracks.........................BH51...

BH51, that is one big doe.  I don't know what folks would do at home if someone brought a doe in like that one there.  Congratulations!
