1.5" at 400 is good for anybody, anytime yep with a good rifle and practice...

But definitly not with any ammo. Check ballistics. Some ammo are better and others downright suck or should I say not accurate at all. Especially the farther out you are.

1:8" twist. I don't load yet so at the moment only factory. Since I haven't had it long I've only used the American Eagle 55gr to 500 yrds with the accuracy mentioned earlier.  I will go heavier when ready to shoot farther. Personaly I find closer that 400 yrds boring. For me it starts getting interesting past 500yrs and beyond. Oh and it will handle the Hornady 79gr.

Steady. I try to hone my skills as much as possible. It's ongoing.

I wanted a 22-250 for a long time, but I ended up choosing the .223 because you can get between 40-80gr ammo which means I can reach 1,000 yrds, longer barrel life, ammo by the case of 500, American Eagle at $8.00 a box which makes it cheap to practice, practice, practice... and so far super accurate at 500 yrds which is way cool.
Now for hunting, geese that are on the ground, fox, seal, wolf if needed... oh and pop cans, rocks, snow mounds etc....  not very edible though  :greentongue:

FIREARMS & OPTICS / My New Rig
January 24, 2008, 02:36:53 PM
Just thought I'd share my excitement. Got my new Tikka T3 stainless, with camo stock in .223 just before snow came. Had my gunsmith fill the stock with foam and pillar bed it. After breaking in the barrell with Gun Juice I went and zeroed it at 500 yrds. Using my Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x40 with side paralax and mildot reticle. So now I can holdover-under. So far my best groups not under good conditions was 1.5" at 400 yrds. Can't wait to try it out in better conditions. This was using federal American Eagle 55gr. Not bad for factory ammo.

Drop drop drop dropppp point. Much easier to skin and no snagging.
I love knives and I'll have to look for a new one to add. Darn!

Man. This subject will never end. If you do a search on the internet your going to get a lot of reading. I used a standard reticle for 14 years and now the last 3 using the Mildot or MP8 and I will never go back to standard. But like anything you have to learn it to appreciate it. Here's a good tool:

I've got two Tikka's and they rock. Super accurate. My first one a 30-06 M658 was bought in 1991 and now just last automn got the T3 stainless with camo stock in .223 and got pillars added. It shoots sub-MOA. I just shot 1.5" groups at 400 yrds with factory federal American Eagle, and it was a bit windy. It's going to be hard to do better unless reloading.

SMALL GAME / Re: .223 ok?

I know I'm late for this thread, but just found it. For the .223 how would a solid 40 gr do?

All my skinning knives are drop point. Simply won't snag the meat. Just slides better under the fur. maximum blade length 4". I only use one knife for a complete skinning and butchering.

HUNTER'S GEAR REVIEW / Re: What's your favorite Knife?
August 21, 2007, 04:42:14 AM
My favorite knife has been the Buck Skinner model 103 with cocobola handle for the last 15 years. Sadly somebody broke into my home last month and stole over $5,000 of hunting gear. :frown:(
All my best knives were Buck with cocobola handles. I always carried 3, models 103, 192BR, 102, plus a small axe.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Camera wise I had a Nikon D100 for 1.5 years and 2 months ago I got a Nikon D200 with a lot of good lens from f1.4, 2.8 etc.

You can see what kind of camera and settings I was using for the pictures there. Just enlarge them and bottom left you can request it.
I haven't yet got a polar bear but came close. A couple years back one came into town below my bedroom window at 6:00 am and I got a call to let me know but I thought he was pulling my leg. But it was true and another guy that I know got it. Oh well :(
