The first belted case, hey?  Doesn't look much like a magnum by today's standards...but it was probably the main topic around the campfire on Safari at that time.

Look at the length of that case neck!

    Hmm I am thinking that Mr barnes made an error on this one, the 9.5x56mm Mannlicher cartridge was adopted in 1908 with the Model 1908 Schoenauer chambered for it. This cartridge was in fact designed By Eley Bros in conjunction with Westley Richards and known as the .375 imless Nitro Express or RNE. and that was in early 1908, I ahve a copy of the original drawing some where sent to me by Phillp Labbat after I enquired about is having a Mauser chambered in this cartridge at the time.

You're probably right BH...history, accuracy and the vast array of cartridges and firearms do not necessarily go hand in hand.

Perhaps you can post the 'original drawing' of the cartridge.  I'd sure love to see it.
