THE CAMPFIRE / a little range time
September 28, 2016, 09:38:18 AM
Been to dang hot to get any squirrel hunting in, so i took the time to get my new wife some range time in for deer season, i set out a deer target out around hundred yards, using my okd Winchester 94 and savage single shot in 30/30 after a few rounds i could see she was getting a little up set with her group's,  comparied to mine, so i ask the question can you see the deer good enough to hit it, so i took one of scoped. 22's, all she needed was some eyes,  so it looks like i will be putting a scope on one of the 30's for her to use, she's really excited about getting out an hunting with me....Ron

THE FISHING LURE / uncle tom's cabin
August 03, 2016, 08:44:33 PM
I was looking for a campsite to take my new family. While I was searching for a spot, my wife told me of her uncle Tom who had built a cabin on Lake Malone back in the late 50's. My new wife had told me of a magical place where the time stood still. So we decided to plan our first camping trip. Backpacks were packed and we were on our way.

I had learned that Uncle Tom was an avid outdoorsman and a retired conservationist.

I learned a lot about Uncle Tom, he designed his own "patent pending" Catfish Jugs.

Upon our arrival at the cabin, our first order of business was to fetch his old john boat and oars from the shed and start setting jugs. Jugs were set with homemade dough balls dipped in warm bacon and sausage grease.

Boy did we catch some Cats.

Before leaving we ALL were planning the next trip, soon.....Ron

HUNTER'S GEAR REVIEW / parts?
February 16, 2015, 10:37:26 AM
:frown Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of replacement parts, is a part that replaces the broken, or worn out part, not a part that needs to be fitted. The last two times I have ordered parts, they came looking like they were home made, pored into a mold an never finished, some of there guy's are not listing these parts as being imported, or copy's, I waited two weeks for a extractor for my model 37 Winchester and when it came, it need a lot of fitting to even come close to working,  it took me over six hours to make me an extractor fit an work..........Ron

SMALL GAME / closed for the season
January 19, 2015, 03:14:58 PM
I closed my trapping season I little early this season, due to being in the hospital with pneumonia and a very bad virus on top of that, I never got any fox's, but I do have around 30 coon pelts, and I worked out deal with some coon hunters in eastern part of the state to buy some of them for training pelts.
I did pick up some extra cash trapping on two farms, getting rid of some unwanted pests; one farm has worked out to be a nice spot for me to get in some deer and turkey hunting in.
I did not do all that good this first season, but the days are getting a little warmer and I'm looking to get in a few days of squirrel hunting before season closes, and with turkey season just around the corner, getting set up for that and working up these coon pelts I'll have a lot to do................Ron
