BOWHUNTING / Re: Scent products and archery accessories
September 21, 2006, 06:52:53 PM
Andy If you get deer downwind of you There is nothing you can buy that will kept you from getting winded. If you use the items you bought that will help kept your sent from traveling as far downwind because there should be less of it. The most important thing you can do is to hunt from a position where you will be downwind of the deer. I like to pull a couple of cattails from the ditch those things that grow tall and look like a cigar on top you can pull them apart and let the fillers float in the wind this will show you where your scent is going. They are also free. One trick I use is to set up close to the top of a ridge when you are in your stand if you are at least level with the top you will have a consistant wind if there is any on that day. also do not walk on the trail you expect the deer to use If you have to cross the trail make a short detour before you cross it so the deer hopefully will come in front of your stand before they hit your scent trail.  good luck Tony

BOWHUNTING / Re: getting rid of the peep sight
September 15, 2006, 07:25:38 PM
I installed the no peep but it was covering up one of my pins and I did not want to make a change on my bow sights. I have just set it aside for now ,It is just to close to the season to make the change for me. I already have the bow sightednin for broadheads and I am ready to hunt. If anyone is Interested In the no peep I would make a trade for it.

TURKEY HUNTING / Re: Taking The Turkey With A Bow

I live In ohio and I have been hunting turkeys for 20 years I have for the most part mastered it I usually shoot 2 gobblers for myself and call In 2 or 3 for other people every year. Last year was my first attempt at hunting them with a compound , I have killed 4 gobblers with my crossbow But The compound is much different I do not use a blind or bait and Just getting a bird within 25 yards of you sometimes can take a week and Then one has to draw the bow This is where Thing have gone from This is great to how many pieces can I break this bow into, In a matter of seconds It seams like if you just move your eyeballs to look at The bowstring they are gone.  I am sure That The way to do it is hide in a blind but for now I am not ready for that .

[] I have had good success making the whistle sound woo wa eat woo wa eat with just my lips. Its funny how easy it is to whistle the sound but hard to explain it. I had taken my daughters out with me to roost some turkeys about 3 years ago and I was showing them How I could make the birds gobble on the roost by Immmitating the owl call who cooks for you who who cooks for you all . I was trying to get my daughter to try and get a response but for some reason the thought that talking to turkeys was embarassing she was to shy to try it in front of her dad and sister finally after much persuading she finally yelled who cooks for you In a voice that you would actually use to ask another person, and belive it or not we found out that all you really have to do is ask the turkeys in your normal human voice and it works just as well as trying to sound like an owl. It worked just as well. This was all very amusing but now I cant really show off my turkey calling skills any more. Stupid turkeys I am wondering now If I should just go out this spring and say walk over here please and leave all the calls at home.

I have a 233 AI It shoots a 40g v max bullet at 4000 fps last summer I shot a 9 shot group That measured .115. and many others it the 1 & 2 s I use this gun for killing prairy dogs out west but I have also killed 5 coyotes with it. They coyotes I shot with it actually ran for 20 or 30 yards but the bullet did not exit Ithink there thick hide exploded the bullet but it killed them quick with no pelt damage. Where this gun really does a good job is turning crows into energy,The black ******** actually explode expecially if you can hit them in the side and hit the wing bone. It looks to me like the 223 ssm would actually have less of a wind drift with the 55g pill over the 40 g. I say buy it.

Quote from: killahogHello andy my name Is tony I am not an expert on bow selection but I will share with you what I have learned so far. I have just picked up a compound last year I have hunted with a crossbow for the last 15 years and I have 6 whitetails ranging from the lowest 125 inches to 151 inches as scored bye boone& crocket. I done extensive reading into what makes compound bows shoot and a friend of mine operates an archery club just 1 mile from my house I also have spent time there listing watching and trying others bows. In my opinion 4 ounces in weight will not make any differance and as far as the 2 inches longer bow I feel that that would probably give you an advantage In your shooting form unless you plan to hunt from a ground blind. My bow is a mathews q2xl It is 50-60lb and is 36 inches from axle to axle I am confident I can make any shot out to 25 yards as long as there is a clear shooting lane. I practice all different ranges and positions and I actually take my stand with me in the woods and set it up and shoot from it with the help of a friend to retrive the arrows. I know 25 yards does not seem like a long shot but here are so many deer in ohio that I dont have to risk a long shot . Here is a web site I found very helpful www.huntersfriend.com/bowselection.htm this will explain alot of thing to you Including brace height.one other thing I think you are on the rite track buying the parker they make good bows and the person you know at the bow shop seems willing to help you and you are going to need help getting set up and with other adjustments later Including fixing your arrows when you start shooting the knocks and vanes off them.
When you can hear the acorns crunching In there mouth they are close enough.

I Hunt in an area where space is limited and I often encounter other Hunters The one  method I use is to exchange phone numbers and Because The last Thing I want to do Is hunt near someone else. When there are other hunters hunting near me what I try to do is determine when they will be hunting morning or evening and Then I plan my time that way.
