WATERFOWL/UPLAND GAME / Waterfowl in South Africa
July 05, 2007, 12:09:54 PM
Thought I would share a pic for those who wonder about waterfowl in other parts of the world. We hunt Egyptian & Spur Wing Geese, Yellow Bills, Cape Teal, Shelducks and many more. I'm holding an Egyptian Goose and below is a male Shelduck. Next year we are combining a combo hunt for upland birds (doves, pidgeons, Francolin, Guinea) and waterfowl. Fantastic place to hunt, without the pressure of other countries. Good hunting, grayghost

Lion hunting can be an upscale hunt nowadays, but when I received the word from my RSA Outfitters on White Rhino hunts, I was stunned. Hunts are priced according to length of both horns and what they tentively will score. Permits we currently offer are priced $37,000-$180.000. You don't want to know what the Black Rhino permit is. Darting a Rhino for $7-$10.000 now appears to be a bargain. One great thing about it is: money is good for hunting. The more hunting $$ that comes into African countries, the more hunting remains important. Kenya is missing more $$$$$ by staying closed to hunting. grayghost

HUNTING AFRICA / Now's the time to go!
March 24, 2007, 02:50:09 PM
I expected prices to climb for plains game hunts this year but evidently due to dry conditions, off season remodeling and unforseen expenses, I've been presented with some of the best prices on package hunts I've seen in several years. The cost of a 5-7 day Plains Game hunt is below what a 4 day Deer hunt runs in the US. Now if we could just get airfare to $200 round trip  Good hunting, grayghost

Anyone tried Ruger's new rifle/cartridge? Appears to be similar to the .375 RUM.

HUNTING AFRICA / Heading for Zimbabwe
December 16, 2006, 06:57:54 AM
An unexpected opportunity came about recently and I'll be heading for Zimbabwe in about six weeks. I won't be hunting any Big 5 game, just plains game on this trip. Have any of you had the chance to use Leupolds new VX-L scope? I'm considering getting one but haven't talked to anyone that has used one. Good hunting, grayghost

WHITETAIL / Success on my first day in the woods
November 13, 2006, 05:26:50 PM
I finally had the chance to take the m/l out on our last day of first muzzle loading season. At 6:35am I called this 9 point to within 35 yards and put the pi-yeow on him. Spread is 16 inches but he field dressed 160 pounds. I'll miss our opening day of TN rifle season next weekend, but I'll be in Illinois hunting one of those dream bucks. Maybe luck will be with me. As luck would have it, one of my friends in SA has decided to open up his ranch to big game hunting this March (Plains Game). He has invited me over to hunt but I'm in need of a hunting partner(s). My local friends and I are already booked to return in June so they are out and I do not relish going over alone (but I will if I have too). This ranch hasn't been sport hunted (other than myself and a friend last July) in eight years, so not only is the game plentiful, it is loaded with high end trophies. He has a good number of species and this is a very affordable trip. Accomodations are excellent as is the staff. Every morning after breakfast your out the door and hunting. No traveling hours away to hunt. I'm planning on a 7 day hunt but could extend it to 10 if needed. For anyone who's ever wanted to go to Africa, this is an outstanding opportunity to not only have a great hunt, but take some record book class animals. If your interested, email me at: dixiedetectors@aol.com and send me your phone number (US only please). I'll be glad to give you a call and fill you in on the details. Good hunting, grayghost

HUNTING AFRICA / The ultimate African gun kit
October 24, 2006, 07:26:23 PM
If it were possible and I had 30 days in which to hunt everything from Varmits, Birds, Plains Game to the Dangerous Six, I would want to take a .17 HMR: .223: .280: 375 H&H and a 12 ga in 3.5" chamber. This would do it all for me although I could swap around some but that's just adding spice to the pie. It would be cool beans if a group of us could go over together. The comraderie on the flight over is almost worth the trip. Lots of hunters on the ride over to J'burg. But for now I'll settle for some muzzle loading Whitetails in a couple of weeks. Good hunting, grayghost

WHITETAIL / Deer tag for Illinois
September 21, 2006, 09:17:09 PM
Third year in a row to draw a gun tag (shotgun or M/L only) in IL. Maybe this year I will tag one of the giant's I've seen for the last two years. Last year I took a 9 point but no corn fed pig the State is known for. Good hunting, grayghost

THE WELCOME WAGON! / Greetings
September 21, 2006, 09:12:06 PM
I came across this site by accident researching African hunting. Big game and Waterfowl hunting are my passions, well a large part of things to do outdoors. Looks like many of you share my love of hunting. I've hunted and fished most of my life. Was a professional Taxidermist for many years but now I have time to persue hunting and fishing. Western hunting and the big game of America kept me happy for a while but now I've discovered hunting in Africa. It changes you. Nothing has ever compared to going there. I look forward to getting to know any of you that enjoy the outdoors as I do. Good hunting, grayghost
