Sorry, just re read your last message & you said TDR mags.
T R Robb himself, says he doesn't think pellet size makes much difference to accuracy, unless they are so undersized they don't engage the rifling properly. The sizer does make pellets more uniform though, & that's where he believes the accuracy improvement comes from. Probably using quality pellets of a uniform weight helps too.

OK, well don't forget to dial in temperature, wind, humidity, altitude & of course, Coriolis effect as well.

Unfortunately the pellet sizer's I have can only size down, not up. So that's not going to help you at all. Is this a problem with the S200 mags, TDR mags or both ?. Ive not had that problem with my S501 .177 Mags.

Basically, in their simplest form, pellet sizer's are just a tapered tube, with the exit hole of the desired diameter. You just push a pellet all the way through. You can get em from Amazon for an Ayrton Senna.(10 English dollars),   The better quality ones are made by T R Rob, & are adjustable.

You WILL let me know which is more accurate at 1,000 yds though, wont you ?.

Are 5.51's better than 5.52's ?.
The answer to that one is................I don't know the answer.
Individual rifles are all different, yours could prefer either.
Trial & error is the only way to find out.

Air Arms pellet tins are generic Joe, & printed on the lid of the tin with the caliber. if you look on the bottom of the tin, it should have a label giving the actual pellet size. 5.50/5.51/5.52. The same label also gives other information, like, date of manufacture etc.
:thl_sarcasm: If you get bored Joe, Air Arms also do a colouring book. You have to supply your own crayons though. :thl_sarcasm_off:

Ive never personally found any worthwhile accuracy improvement if I neck crimp my loads.
I do it with 6.5 x 55 brass that Ive full length sized several times. As its one round that I seem to have to trim to length after each firing/sizing.  I'm a bit concerned that if the neck wall gets a little thin, there will be reduced grip on the bullets, & they could get pushed back in the case when chambering, or in the magazine under recoil. Maybe its time to invest in new brass !.

I had a "slight" disagreement/argument with Alain on neck crimping. He said he neck crimped his .22-250 loads to get more uniform & consistent neck tension. I mentioned that it would surely only work if all his brass had uniform neck wall thickness?. (The thicker the neck, the harder the crimp). He said "no", & I "didn't know what I was talking about", & he stomped off. It seemed logical to me, but Alain always had to be right, & would swear that black was white if it suited him !. ( Or that black was blue, if you were talking about finishing gun barrels etc ).

Forgot to add, Alain used a neck crimp on his .22-250 loads.
He never mentioned to me that he'd had any chambering/loading issues with that rifle.
Though he did say, it shot so well, it was one rifle he wouldn't "muck about with".

Hi Paul,

This may be of some help with loading for Alains .22-250.  Ive a box of Alains .22-250 reloads, that I took over the shop with his guns. I think he was pretty meticulous recording his loading data & here's a picture of the label attached to the one box of .22-250 ammo we found. Showing the COAL.
No doubt he kept a record of all his reloads, but I would think it wont be a paper copy.
I can also get you some data for at least one of his loads for .223, .243 ,.444 & maybe .17 Rem as well, if its any use to you.

Hi Paul, Rifles a Steyr Männlicher Hubertus Model in .222 REM. Load's a Nosler 50g BT over 21 grains of VV N130.  Doing about 3,088 fps, (according to Quickload). I've never chronographed it, I went more for accuracy than mv. Scopes a Meopta Meopro 6 to 18 x 50, in EAW Apel Swing mounts.
I load for a mate that has an off the shelf, skinny barrel, Tikka T3 in .223. I use the same N130,21grain powder charge, ( a mild load, but that's what my Lyman powder measures set up for ), with a Sierra 52g soft point, and at 100yds it shoots 3 rounds into 1 ragged hole. It was the first load we tried for that rifle, & by pure luck (& obviously superlative loading skills), it just works.
The Fox was almost broadside to me, & went down with hardly a twitch, shot in the boiler room.

Caught up with this Dog Fox on the third outing. He couldn't get into the run, but he'd stir the hens up till one stuck its head through the mesh, then he'd bite it off.
A 50 grain Nosler BT at about 50yds sorted him out. A high price to pay when your only getting Chicken heads for dinner.
I'm glad it wasn't a Tawny Owl doing it, as that's often one of their trademarks. Especially with Pheasant Poult's in a pen.

Ah, I'm sorry gemihur, I was actually responding to J0e_bl0ggs original post as to the caliber of the barrel he was working on. Sorry for the confusion !.

None the less, your choice of calibers is interesting.

Unfortunately in the UK, the average firearms owner doesn't have the luxury of being able to easily play with wildcat calibers. We have to give "good reason" to possess each & every gun & its caliber, to justify owning it.

Its a bit different for Registered Firearms Dealers though.

I'm taking a slightly educated guess, that this is a fast twist. .223 barrel, chambered in .22 LR, designed to stabilize, & therefore wring the maximum accuracy out of Aguila .22-SSS Sniper Sub Sonic ammo ?.

In England, its not quite as simple, as "you can shoot deer at night".

You CAN, but to legally do so, you need to apply for a license from "Natural England".

I wont quote chapter & verse, & bore you with the details, but basically you need to give good reason to justify the issue of said license.

The only justifiable reasons would seem to be:-

Preserving public health or public safety,
Conserving the natural heritage.
Preventing serious damage to property.

But,

"I need meat for the freezer".
"I need Beer money",
"I'm a lousy hunter, & they are easy to shoot at night".

Didn't make the list.
