I have a P.H. 7mm mag, with very plain European walnut, in fact, I think they use the same grade of walnut to make chair legs with.  The roll over cheek piece is very comfortable.  I was looking at Richards Micro fit gun stocks,  and noticed that they carry very similar design stocks to the P.H., and they can be had in very high grade walnut. I have never had any dealings with this company, and am looking for opinions. Thanks, Art.:D

:D Greetings once again.  I just bought a P.H. 1200 super, in 7mm mag, with a Redfield widefield 3x9 range finding scope.  It has a plain walnut stock, with no figure, but a nice rosewood fore end tip and grip cap.  Wen I got it, the safety was in the off position, and would not budge, no matter whether the bolt was cocked or not.  I figured that I could fix the safety, hmmmm.  I removed the barreled action from the stock, and put penetrating oil on the safety- trigger assembly, and even took out the 3 trigger adjusting screws, and that little spring.  The safety would still not budge.  I figured that it wasn`t working anyway, so--I took a little plastic hammer, and tapped the safety back and forth, back and forth, etc.,  until with a lot of thumb pressure, I can slide it on and off.  When it is in the on position, it works just as it should.  When I slide it back and forth, it makes a loud click. So much for the promoted silent safety feature.  Yes, I did put the 3 screws and spring back, just as the directions stated.  I have no clue as to how to actually make the safety work properly, and I`m really not in love with the idea of continuing to tap it back and forth, just to make it work properly----the trigger works fine.  Has anyone else on this forum had this safety problem? Any suggestions? One thing of note: on the left side of the tang, it has a Belgium crown, instead of Spain stamped in it. Your help and comments are very much appreciated. Thanks............Woodyplacks.

I ran across an 80s vintage, { I think }, Redfield 3X9 widefield, with accu-trac and bullet drop  scale.  The optics are just as clear and bright as any that I`ve seen, but  never having used one with the accu-trac, bullet drop features,  I don`t know if I should bother with it. It is second hand with one cap installed on it. It seems like if it was a good idea, the new Redfields would have these extra features. Would anyone care to shed some light on this subject? Thanks..........Art.

 I posted this question in the wrong spot before. Hopefully, I got it right this time.  I`m in process of buying a P.H. 1200, in 7mm mag., from a local gun shop. The bolt isn`t blued, but is either plated, or polished . Could someone tell me if some of the 1200s had plated bolts, or just polished?  I would like to know, as I`m thinking of getting the bolt jewelled, if possible. Any and all opinions are appreciated. I would also like to find a steel trigger guard and floor plate eventually, to replace the aluminum one that is on it now. Thanks..........Art:biggthumpup:

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Beretta 92 fs Brigadier
July 09, 2009, 08:31:26 AM
I was looking for a pistol, and in a swap, I picked up a Beretta 92 Brigadier, blue, in about 98%.  I haven`t had one of these before, and was wondering what upgrades are available, effective, and from where. It does have some plastic parts, like the guide red, which is easy to be replace, but a barrel bushing, or nose piece, is a different matter. Any thoughts? Thanks, Art.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Sako Rifle Checkering
March 17, 2009, 09:16:04 PM
I have a pre Garcia 7mm rem. mag finnbear Sako rifle, that i`m refinishing the stock on. I bought a heavy duty stripper, that took off the finish, and am in the process of ironing out the stock dents. Anyone have much luck removing dents this way??  The checkering looks like it was hand done, and needs to be repointed, refreshed, or what ever you want to call it. I`ve never done any checkering, or even pointing up, and don`t know actually what I need, or how to go about it. Any help that someone could offer, as to a guide, or what tool I would need to use, would be appreciated. Thanks, Art..........

HUNTER'S GEAR REVIEW / Kane Gun Chaps
March 08, 2009, 03:34:10 PM
:D  Greetings fellow gun lovers, I bought a set of Kane gun chaps from ebay for my BPS, and really like them.  They cover just the stock and forend, but do a really nice job.  They are thick and well made with the butt stock cover being held on by a  zipper, and a velcro lined end flap.  The forearm cover fits like a glove.  They really look nice, protect the wood, help with recoil, because the butt stock flap covers the recoil pad, and they stay in place while shooting. Mine came in all season camo, and was $20.00 including shipping.  Ebay also has Kane gun chaps for other models as well, and I suggest that if you have an interest, that you get a set now before they are gone. Kane no longer makes them, probably due to so many guns coming out with synthetic stocks. I like wood stocks, so they are ideal for me.  I may get another set and fashion a barrel and receiver cover to match the stock and forearm. Happy shooting...........art.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Knight & Hale Camo Tape?
March 02, 2009, 10:17:08 PM
I mentioned in another post, that I had bought a new Browning pump.  I thought that it would be a good idea to wrap it in camo tape, not just for the camo effect, but to protect the bluing from rust and wear, and also help protect the wood from dents and dings.  Yes, I know that I could have bought a camo shotgun in the first place, but that`s just not my style. I bought a roll of cloth camo tape made by Knight and Hale, to wrap the gun, but I can`t seem to find any user reviews on it. Has anyone on this forum used this tape, that would like to share the results?  Any info would be appreciated. BTW, i bought this brand because that`s what my local store carried. Thanks, Art.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / BPS My New Toy!
February 27, 2009, 01:46:20 PM
:D Greetings, The other day, I bought a NIB Browning bps 12ga., 26" barrel invector choke, from my local gun shop in Houlton, Maine.  I read several articles about it being difficult to field strip, and reassemble correctly, before I bought it, but decided to go ahead anyway. The supplied owners manual made it very clear how to install the barrel, and take it off, and by following the instructions exactly, it was very easy to do. Browning does not recommend that anything else be done to take it apart for cleaning, and I can see where further disassembly could get a little complicated. For someone that at least wants to know how to really take it apart, there is a good guide put out by Radocy, called oddly enough, Browning BPS Takedown Guide  made easy.  The guide is 11" by 8 1/2", 5 page, with very clear instructions and excellent photos. These guides can be found on Ebay, and that is where I got mine. I think I paid something like $9.00 with shipping for the guide, and I highly recommend it, for those who like to tinker.  I just thought I`de pass this info along, incase it might be useful.  :D ..........Art.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Firearm Bluing Wear
December 07, 2008, 03:33:08 PM
When you take your nice blued handgun in and out of the holster, after a number of times, the bluing will start to come off. This can be annoying, and expensive, if you want to get it reblued.  If you are one of those fussy people like myself, you will want to prevent the blue from coming off in the first place. Here is what I do:  I get a small roll of 1/2" wide black electrician`s tape, and carefully and neatly apply it to where the gun rubs against the inside of the holster, such as on both sides of the barrel, and other high spots. Naturally, there are some spots that can`t be taped because the tape might interfear with the function, such as some parts of the cylinder, but for the most part it works great. Most people don`t like the looks of tape on a firearm, but consider this: It prevents blue wear, cost almost nothing, can easily be removed with no ill effects, and looks a heck of a lot better than a gun with the bluing worn off! I also use this method for my blued hunting rifles, shotguns, to prevent blue loss and scratches to my guns when hunting through the pucker brush, rock piles, etc. Try it you`ll like it!:2thumbsup: ............Art.

RELOADING / CCI Blazer .357 Mag.
December 07, 2008, 03:08:48 PM
:huh2: I was up to the Caribou Trading Post, in Caribou , Maine, where I found 2 boxes of CCI Blazer .357 for $15.00 per box. It is the type with the non reloadable aluminum cases, and I guess that`s why its cheap.  I looked this stuff up on the net after getting it home, and I guess the only real complaint with it is sticking cases. I`m thinking that maybe a thin coat of reloading lube { I still have some left over from reloading }, on the Blazer ammo would solve the supposed problem. I haven`t had a chance to try it yet, and wonder if anyone else has..Any thoughts?...........Art.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / A S&W 15-3 Followed Me Home
December 01, 2008, 04:19:59 PM
:) I said No More Guns!, but bought one anyway, using the potential gun ban as an excuse. I got a S&W 15-3, with a 2" barrel, ser. 14k3***.  It is in near mint condition, about 97% and has one of the smoothest trigger pulls that I`ve come across. I`ve tried to find out when it was made, but so far no luck; maybe I`ll have to call the company, unless someone reading this post can tell me.  I know little about this revolver, outside of it came before the model 19. I got this 38 with a box of rem umc +p, with a bianchi holster, for $300.00 tax inc.  Thanks............Art.

Parker Hale/BSA Rifles / Foremost 30 06 Rifle ?
July 04, 2008, 11:50:53 AM
Greetings, This is my first post, and I would like to find out about a rifle made in Birmingham, England.  The name on the rifle is Foremost; I never heard tell of it, nor have I been able to look it up in a gunbook.  It is a bolt action 30 06, that is built on a mauser action. It has an aluminum hinged floor plate, rosewood forearm tip and grip cap, monty carlo style stock.  I`m wondering if this could be a lower grade Parker Hale.  It is in about 75% condition, and is for sale for $400.00.  I`m hoping that a member can tell me something about it. Thanks, Art.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / colt king cobra or s&w 27-2 Help!!
November 13, 2008, 05:07:56 PM
:undecided: I know various things about the various, but this time, I asking for advise.  I have a blue, 6" S&W 27-2, pinned and recessed, in about 95% cond., with pach. grips. No box, papers, etc.  I have a chance to trade for a colt king cobra, 6" stainless, in about 95% condition also.  I can`t really tell which one is worth more, or will be worth more down the road. I know very little about revolvers, especially colts.  I welcome and am thankful for all opinions.........Art.:undecided:

I bought a 6" 27-2 S&W recently, and was thinking about swapping the 6" barrel for a 4" 5, 0r 3 1/2 one. The one I have is about 95% and has the partridge front sight. Any interest? Thanks, Art.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Smith & Wesson 27-2
November 06, 2008, 08:30:02 PM
:undecided: I was looking  at handguns  today at my local gun shop and saw a S&W 27-2 6" barrel, about 98=99%cond. pac grips. for $500.00, including tax, credit cards ok.  From what I gather, that`s not a bad price.  I think it`s one of the later ones, with a sn# n75***x. Does anyone reading this know when it was made? All comments welcome.Thanks........Art.

RELOADING / Ok, Now What??
November 05, 2008, 03:25:52 PM
:( I`m still in shock about the Obama victory. I think the only thing that Christians can do now is pray, and hope that somehow God and moral men will turn things around. I don`t get political very often, and I realize that my way of seeing things is not a popular view, otherwise Mc Cain would have won. I`ve been told that Obama is going to tax the heck out of ammunition, and probably guns. Today, I went to my local Wal Mart, and bought 3 more boxes of Federal Power Shok 7mm rem Mag 150 gr. for $17.29 +t box 20, also {2} 550 round bulk boxes Federal 22lr, for $13.00 box.  Oh, btw, the Fed. PS seems to be just as good as the higher priced ammo, at least ways as far as targets go. I live in Northern Maine, and it seems like a good idea to stock up. I should probably also get a handgun; I don`t know what Obama is planning for them............Art.

RELOADING / The Amazing Lee Classic Loader !!!
November 02, 2008, 07:03:54 PM
 I saw an ad  for a Lee classic loader kit , in 7mm remington mag., where ammunition could be loaded " in the field " using this small kit, a rubber hammer, and of course, primers, bullets & powder, cases.  I had a regular reloading equipment a while back, and sold it., when I sold all my rifles but for my 22 and 7mm mag. I`m retired so reloading speed is not important. Would anyone care to share their thoughts on these lee kits ?  I guess that they only neck size, but in my case, that should be good enough. I eagerly await all opinions, either for or against. Thanks......Art.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / G 1 Epoxy, Any USA Sources??
October 29, 2008, 06:07:08 AM
I`de like to try g 1 epoxy , as a gunstock finish, and also would like to find a USA supplier.  Garrett Wade has been listed as a source, but I checked, and they don`t seem to carry it. There are suppliers in Canada, but I`de like to find a US source, any thoughts??..............Art.
