THE CHUCKWAGON / Re: Sausage casing

Good on you making up some sausage.  One of my favorite things to make.  I'd be tempted to use a mix of apple and hickory.  Don't think you can go wrong with any of the woods that you have shown.  Good eating to you.

That all sounds very good to me.   Put a few of my pheasants from last season in the smoker today.  Sure makes for some tasty treats.  Hope yours turns out good.

Thats simply a disaster with those fires going on in Colorada, besides being horribly scary for anyone living in the vicinity of them.  Hope Mother Nature decides to help out sum in this situation, and very soon.

You have a good  looking smoker unit.  Myself, I did smoke up some Lake Trout last week.  Since it disapeared rather quickly, it must have turned out OK.  Most of my sausage is almost gone.  Hoping  to make up a batch yet this summer.  Been sort of hoarding the last bag.

Its always open season with a camera.   Getting good wildlife pics can be a great off season challenge.  Can provide lots of exercise, and hone ones spot and stalk skills at the same time.

So what kind of sausage are you making?  My main purpose for hunting big game is so I can have some great meat to make some great sausage.

THE CAMPFIRE / Re: It's So Dry Here That:

Been raining  and windy here most everyday for the last three months.  Everything is quite green.  Have some grasses outside of the pasture fence that are over three foot tall.  Hope the deer and elk are growing  the well also.

Nice to hear that the 90 gr. AB's are here.  Though I don't have a .243, I will be trying them in my 6MM.  Get good accuracty from the 95 gr.Nosler BT's, but I don't have alot of confidence in them as a deer or antelope round.

Quote from: davidlt89;120812It never gets old!!!!! Seen another last night with the antlers starting to sprout!!!! What species of moose are in your parts KT29? for some reason I am thinking they are not canadian moose.

I got drawn for a permit in 2009! was a good time, and it just happens to be my favorite big game meat! I had to wait two years before putting in again but I am back in the game this year!!! they will draw the permits on the 23rd of this month! God bless.

You are most fortunate.  I've never been drawn.  Good luck drawing another tag.  Your are correct.  These are not canadian.  They are Shiras in this area.

Quote from: davidlt89;120809Very neat!!!! Some people don't realize how small they are when they are first born!!! here is a picture of a year and half old cow I seen on saturday. God Bless.

Arne't those guys always fun to see. I'll throw in my pic here that I took last week down by one of the neighboring creeks. The guy on the right appears to be a big bull in the making. Perhaps one day, if I'm ever lucky to draw a tag, we'll meet again.

Nice pic.  I haven't seen any calves yet this spring.   Did photograph a few moose today also.  They are pretty scroungy looking yet.  Wolves have really  dessimated the moose herd in this area along with the elk.
