FIREARMS & OPTICS / Re: .243?
February 06, 2005, 03:39:28 PM
I  own 4 .243 rifles......rem bdl, cz  550, cz full stock and sako L579. I like  'um  all...my pick  is the old  sako. Tikka  makes one  for  about 500  bucks...made  in  same factory as  sako...uses same  barrel....cheaper stamped  parts...everyone  I talk to  says  they
are the most  accurate  out  of the  box rifle  made...well..that's  what they say. the CZ shoots  great...are you  confused yet?....just  buy  a  243 and  have fun. regards, Rick.

RELOADING / Re: 280 Rem vs 7mm Rem Mag
February 06, 2005, 03:08:46 PM
Yes, the 7mm Rem Mag is a belted cartridge...based on the .300 Win Mag case if I remember correctly, but I couldn't swear to that.

I think it  was based on the 338 necked  down or the 264 necked up???? enough of  this  nonsense....they are  all  great deer rifles
7x57
7mmWSM
7MM REM SAUM
7MM-08
7x64
284 WIN
280  REM
7MM  REM MAG
7MM WBY MAG
275 H  H
7MM  DAK
7MM STW
7MM  ULTRA.....did I miss one??? Take  your pick  men....all great deer rifles...buy one  shoot it...enjoy

I'm a new guy here, however, IMHO...there is no perfect caliber. It depends upon what you are hunting and the range you expect to be shooting. My brother's first deer rifle was a 6.5 x 55 swede. Nice gun but not my pick for a cross canyon Elk shot. I definitely wouldn't take one on a brown bear hunt. For a 300 yard and in deer rifle the numbers are good. My 2 cents....regards, Rick. OBTW...My deer rifle is a Steyr 7x57....it ain't perfect but at my old  age, it's nice shooting a cartridge that doesn't hurt me as much as the deer!!

RELOADING / Re: 7mm Rem Mag Reloading
February 06, 2005, 01:58:55 PM
hello...new  guy  on  hunter's life. My view on your  questions are...1. Brass 2. depends  on the rifle...barrel length, twist etc....try um all  ..... what are you hunting? 3.  clueless 4.  I full lenght resize everything and think it's even more important  in magnums. Spend  the extra  time in case prep and you will be rewarded with consistent results.....my 2 cents. Good  luck Rick.

:)In my old age, I hunt WTD with my old Steyr 7x57. I've shot many many deer in Colorado growing up with a .243. My favorite elk gun is an old Sako L61R Finnbear. Pronghorns in Wyoming get the 7mm rem mag 140 grainer.  If I had to pick one......the '06 gets the nod. My first post here...neat forum.  Regards, Rick.

I'm Rick and I live in NC Missouri with my terrior Tess and an antique computer/browser/phone  lines and cell phone hell.  I own 175 acres of food plots, CRP, 4 ponds and a variety of critters  including deer, quail, turkey, bobcats, rabbits, bass, crappie  and channel cats. I collect old Sakos and have reloaded rifle and shotgun ammo since 1962.
