Pleased with the outcome of this knife: http://www.thehunterslife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20174
I ordered three more blade blanks from Track of the Wolf:
1) https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/1104/1/BLADE-CAM-05
2) https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/1104/1/BLADE-PAT-03
3) https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/1104/1/BLADE-RIP-04

Let there be no confusion; I have NO "need" for a knife, let alone a "patch" knife. HOWEVER, I liked making the "Knife for a Friend", and, as I mentioned in that thread, I don't have knives with handles made of animal parts that I 'like'. I'd like one with Dall sheep horn scales, and I really like the whale rib bone that I have. So... I bought the above blades to satisfy those wants, if not "needs", and here is the first finished knife of those three - the "Patch" knife with whale rib scales:

It looks more porous than it actually is. It's VERY dense. I like it. I'll have to make a sheath for it now.(Well, not "now", as I am behind on other projects that are 'due' before Christmas.) Next knife is a replacement for the one lost in this "adventure": http://www.thehunterslife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15176. It's the "Ripper" blade (#3 above). I still have one of the sheaths that RBH made for it, so that won't be another task I have to complete. I intend to make the scales on that one from Dall sheep horns.

I'm not really procrastinating on the other projects. I work on the knives while glue is drying or I'm waiting for some tool or material to show up in the mail. And of course, things like "Colorado Deer Hunt" take more time than most realize. Not complaining, just explaining. ;)

Really nice, Paul. I like things simple & elegant like that. Don't need them but like them. Never worked with whale bone. ......Paul H

Thanks, Paul.

I should distinguish between "whale bone" and "whalebone". The first refers to the actual bones of a whale. (That's what these scales are; whale BONE.) The second, "whalebone", refers to the baleen from the mouth of baleen whales like "Bowhead" (Balaena mysticetus), "Right" (Eubalaena glacialis), or "Gray" (Eschrichtius robustus) whales, as opposed to "toothed whales" like "Sperm" whales (Physeter macrocephalus) and orcas (Orcinus orca). I really like working with the BONE. It's very dense and works and polishes like soft metal.
