LOL!!!! How I miss hammering those buggers! When I had my VTR 22-250 a good friend and I would go out for the day getting an easy count of 100 dead gophers lol. Cant do that now that im back in Ontario. If I were ever to go back west i would make a notion to bring the 788 in .222 as well  as my new CZ550 Lux in 22-250. Nothing hones in your shooting skills like a day of shooting at gophers.!!!

RELOADING / Re: Lee Zero Error target Loader

Hey all. i Love my lee precision reloading dies and my new favorite site is now //www.titanreloading.com.. They deal only in Lee Precision and there prices I find to be better than usual. I got my 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser Die set with as well as some Factory Crimp Dies and with shipping and everything it cam to about 80 bucks. Not bad for shipping to Canada. I dont know if they ship over sea's or not but i think it might be something to check out if your interested in more lee supplies.

I have made some loads for the CZ as well to try out. 50gr V max ontop of Varget at approx 3700 fps. My cases are winchester and i am now using CCI primers. will see how they shoot this weekend coming up i hope.  Will also try some 40gr V-max as well. This is the load i have been using all winter for coyotes. Deadly accurate in the tikka and the 788. No coyotes walked away from them. There dead as before they hit the ground, so i hope they shoot just as good in the CZ.

Theres a couple reasons i went with a CZ but the main one is the modifyed M98 action. im a big fan of it. But i also find the craftmanship is top notch. I hope the set trigger works on mine but i guess time will tell lol.

                              Thanks Again

Noisy yes! i think everyone in a 10 mile radius can here every shot i take. barrel is to short and im not a fan of that synthitic stock. Im thinking the CZ will be a much better rifle. Will be mounting a Burris 4.5-14x42 on it. I have a CZ 452 Lux in 22 and its a tack driver. im hoping the 550 is the same.

Thanks all!! sorry its been a while to reply. Ive been working some terrible long hours here and just coming home in to bed lol.

So i really apprechate all your advice and i will deffanilty check my scale here to see what it tells me. i have some 40gr,50gr and 140gr lead here i can check it with. the 140 gr is for the ol swede M96.

I will try to get a pic this weekend of the ol 788 and post. no its not a heavy barrle and we also have one in .222. i love it.  good old tack drivers. and there not for sale. sorry

im wondering if the issue is my factory crimp.. i do lee factory crimp and just started doing so to tighten my groups. it did work and now from what i see were shooting about 1 inch or less at 200yrds with the tikka. the 788 is about 1 in groups. not much bigger. as for the remington VTR... im trading it in for a CZ 550 Lux this weekend. i hate that thing.

As for the Varget it is rated as the extreme weather powder and i started loading it around the late fall so if thats an issuse i should know cause i made some loads with 3gr less powder so if they get jammed then i know where to start.

If i missed anything im sorry and do apprechate everything and would like to talk more.
again sorry for the delay in responce.

Thanks David! i agree the scale is usless and will be replaced asap. i took some mesurements on the Tikka and the 788 and there are no apprent signs of over pressure so i went and checked the brass and what i belive became the issue is the brass was on its last leg. They were on there 4th reload and the brass just got weak from what i can make of it. The brass does look thinner than new brass so i belive it just expanded to much and jammed in the chamber.  I will be ordering an RCBS scale here and replacing the Lee one. I thought about digital but for the cost might not be worth it. During the winter season i will easly reload over 250 rounds of 22-250 40gr V-Max. so doing them 1 by 1 is kinda pain lol. any experiance with digital. Thanks

RELOADING / 22-250 Case ejection problems
March 10, 2012, 05:08:48 AM
Hey all so i was hoping to get some help on some issues i have had reloading for the 22-250.

I started reloading for the 22-250 for about 8 months now and found a load that works good for hunting coyotes out of my 700VTR, Tikka T3 and Remington Model 788. All has been going good all season until i got the call from my father saying that after firing a couple of the shells were jammed in the chamber and had one heck of a time getting them to eject. I reload based on the 8th edition Hornady hand book using 37.4gr of Varget poweder pushing a 40gr Vmax around 4000fps. Im not running the max load but wondering if my Lee Saftey Scale could be starting to have issues. Im affriad to be over pressuing the chambers. Especially the 788 since it is from the 60's.  I do trim my cases before each reload session. so what could possibly be going on.  any help would be much apprechated! thanks

Thanks Oz. Deffanitly is a keeper. Just wish i could find some info on it lol. Seems there is nothing about a safari in .222 on the net.

Thanks!
From what i can tell from looking at the rifle is the action is the same length as any other M98 but seems to be a little smaller at the extractor to fit the small case of the .222. and yes on the bottom of the rifle there is a piece that is removale like a drop plate on an interal magaze rifle. this acts like a spacer to accept the smaller magazine for the .222.. Thats all i can really tell ya though. Maybe someone who knows more about these rifles might be able to tell ya more. Maybe brithunter might know something.

Its nice to avoid tracking whenever possible im thinking something along the lines of a 140gr partion would be a good moose bullit to insure a clean kill even at close ranges. know anything along those lines preformance wise vs the soft point i am currently using.

Yes I found this interesting a long time ago when I mentioned this rifle on another thread. I felt bad not being able to get the pics till now. I have moved back to ontario so was able to get some photos on my phone last night in the shop.  I remeber some things mentioned in that thread and tryed to get photos of those markings I was told about. I'm still having a hard time finding a date of manufacture for this rifle. Seems like there was very limited numbers made since I cannot seem to find anything on the internet about this rifle in this caliber. Thanks for any info anyone has and hope the pics are ok.

Hey all so i finaly did get pics of my good friends Parker Hale safari in 222. Its one of the most accurate .222 i ahev ever shot but what really gets me is the high quality and craftsmanship of this fine varmiting rifle!.  My friend said the rifle would be for sale anytime soon if it ever did come up for sale but was curious about what the value of this might be. I believe his father payed under 500 Canadian for it 10 year + ago. Thanks again
