Hi guys, it's been a while since I've posted anything, but I've still been shooting and handloading. I just got a new to me Cimarron Uberti in 45 colt. My question is can I load it to the higher than 14,000psi standard pressure? I know the Ruger Blackhawks can take the higher pressure but I can't find much info on my Cimarron. It's a newer gun, not sure of the year or Excact model. Thanks!

RELOADING / Reloading Accidents...
March 09, 2009, 05:04:09 PM
:stars:  I don't know if this sort of thread has been done before, but I think it would be interesting to hear about others' mishaps while in their Handloading rooms. It could also help others out so they don't make the same mistake! I haven't had any accidents yet...almost though. Got mixed up on some powder and forgot which kind I was using. And also had a few primers go in the case sideways!!! none went off though. I look forward to see many replies!

RELOADING / Fast or Slow burn powder?
March 01, 2009, 06:53:48 PM
Probably a stupid question, but I don't know the answer and can't find it in my reloading manuals...Using the same weight bullet and recommended 'start' charge of a propellent, what propellant will give a bigger 'BANG' when fired, a slow burn propellent which would require more grains for a start charge or a fast burn propellant calling for less grains? Or does the 'bang' just depend on the pressures? Or would the 'bang' when fired be a bigger bang using slow burn powder with a compressed load vs. a fast burn powder and non compressed?

RELOADING / Why can't you reload Glock shot ammo?
February 26, 2009, 04:37:15 PM
I've heard you cannot reload ammo once it's been fired in a Glock. Something about the firing pin shape and damages the case? Could someone please explain in more detail, and what happens if it is reloaded? Thanks, Bigs.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / New Mark V SVM .308, need some help.
December 14, 2008, 07:41:09 AM
Just got a Weatherby SVM (super varmintmaster) in .308 cal. First ,I can't find the barrel twist rate. I've tried doing searches but can't find anything. Second, I will be putting on a Millette scope with a 56 mm adjustable objective. I was wanting to use Leupold bases and rings, but cannot get the setup high enough for the front of the scope to clear the heavy barrel. I bought the super high 30mm rings ,but they aren't high enough. I also have some millette rings, and they ARE high enough, but the bases I get for this rifle are allways one thicker than the other, and the scope would set at an angle on the rifle. Has anyone had any expierence with this sort of setup?

WHITETAIL / Bad deer season this year?
November 17, 2008, 03:59:41 PM
We  had the worst opening weekend for deer season this year in 30 years. I hunt on my grandparents farm, we hunt on 400 acres (60% woods, 40% hay fields)in Gasconade County ,Missouri.  Out of 13 guys, only 1 small doe is all we had hang'n the first day, and nothing the second day. I say nothing, as most of the guys saw nothing.  Nobody 'shot and missed', we just weren't seeing any deer! I was just wondering if others in Missouri had any luck with their deer camps, or maybe all the deer ran off our farm this year?!

I'm currently using a 36 fixed power BSA scope on my .204 target rifle. I'm wanting to spend a little more money and get something better. I like the fixed power scopes, I prefer it to be silver, and I can't afford the 1000.00 Leupold Competition Series. What else is out thee that is the 'middle of the road'? I was looking at the Weaver 36T. , but they still have the front paralax adj. and only a 1 inch tube dia. (kinda seems old school) I'd really like a side focus paralax and 30mm tube I'll spend up to 500.00. Any ideas???

RELOADING / precision reload data for target Ruger .204
November 02, 2008, 05:10:42 PM
Anyone here reload for precision target shooting for the .204 ruger? I'm shooting a Ruger M77 Target rifle in .204. So far my best loads are 39 gr Sierra Blitzking and Berger 35 gr match. The Blitzkings@ 27 grains Varget and the Bergers @ 27.5 varget. I'm still testing , it's so hard for me to tell a big difference in loads. My best groups are 3/8's of an inch @100yards with 5 shots. I was wondering if someone else is having good success with another load combination. I haven't been to the reloading shop in about 3-4 months so I don't know if theyv'e goten any new bullets in. Their .204 selection has been kind of slim. I'd like to hear from other people loading for the .204..especially if you're using the Ruger M77 target rifle.

BOWHUNTING / New to archery..which arrows to get?
September 07, 2008, 03:44:40 PM
OK, I just got a really nice used bow. It's an Archery Research AR37. 70lb draw. Had it adjusted to 29" draw. I bought it from a guy at work who shots in comptetitions. He uses Easton 500 arrows....but I don't want to afford that much quality..or do I? I don't really know anything about bow hunting, except that I want to hit the dear! I see arrows ranging from $50- $150 per dozen. And some online that are carbon and include broadheads and field points for $59.00. What is your opinion on arrows for a new bow hunter? What about broadheads, do I get the cheap ones or do I need nice ones? Also I need a sight for the bow. It has a nice Rip Cord rest so I'm good there. Thanks for your help!

RELOADING / Bullets are loose in the case! Help!
February 29, 2008, 11:08:13 AM
OK I'm new at this reloading. I got a RCBS Partner kit. Lee dies (.204). My Sierra Blitzking 39 gr bullets are loose in the case. I can push them in all the way to the charge with just my fingers. I tried some 40 gr Hornady also, still loose. I tried putting a small crimp on the case but the bullet is still loose. I crimped a little more, still loose, crimped a little more and the case is 'smashed and bulging' and I can still spin the bullet. The bullets are not soppesed to be crimped but I just was expierementing. Whats the deal here?

RELOADING / 218 bee & 30 carbine info
January 31, 2008, 05:16:19 PM
I'm looking at a Taurus revolver with a 12 inch barrel. One is chamber in 218bee and 1 in 30 carbine. I don't know anything about these rounds. Can someone tell me about them. What do they compare to? How long are the cases? and the diameter of the cases, and the weights of the bullets. Thankyou, Charlie

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Savage 93 Mako .17 Hummer
January 27, 2008, 06:43:32 PM
Well If you guys remember, I had purchased a new Savage 93 .17 HMR And had a few problems with it the day I brought it home. After a few weeks and returning to the local small gun shop ,and talking with Savage on the phone 4 times, I returned the rifle to my local shop and got a full refund. 2 days later, I went back there and bought another Savage model 93. This one is a "MAKO". Same .17 HMR caliber, but with a crazy look'n custom stock. It shoots OK, nothing like my .204 Ruger, but that's to be expected. With 5 rounds in the gun, I can take out 3 golf balls at 100 yards. The Ruger is 3 for 3.....of course. Anyways...the Savage looks pretty cool though.

RELOADING / Well, I guess I better start load'n
January 21, 2008, 04:29:11 PM
OK I'm at the stage where I want to start reloading, but I know nothing about it. My brother was showing me this kit out of a magazine that had a Lee press and a bunch of other stuff for something around 139.00. Thats plenty cheap for me, and it's fine if it would cost more also, but the problem is that I KNOW ABSOLUTLY NOTHING ABOUT IT! I wouldn't know what to do with any of the pieces. It's kind of embarrasing to admit. I was watching him reload a few rounds and he was telling me that he used a brass case in his rifle to 'press' the bullet in the case by closing the bolt. He did this to get a measurement of how far the bullet should be set into the case for 'his' rifle. I'm sure there are tons of tricks like this and secrets that I want to learn about in order to do proper hand loads. I wish I could find a good book on reloading for beginners or something. I saw the post obout 'hard to beat for starting to load' or something like that, but that link was for just a press. If I'm gonna start this process, It seems to me it would be better to get some kind of complete kit. What are your guys thinks and thoughts for a complete beginner. What brand should I get? I'll mostly load for my .204 Ruger, and a little for my 300Weatherby, and some for my 30-.06.

THE CAMPFIRE / Check my Wife OUT!!
January 10, 2008, 05:35:42 PM
OK guys you gotta check this video of my wife shooting my double barrel hammered 12 gauge for the first time. It's her first time ever shooting a real gun. I don't know how to post it on here so you'll have to go to google.com then at the top of the page click on 'more' and go to video. Then type in 'girl shoots shotgun for first time'. She's the one wearing the football jersey and you can see my shed in the background. Be sure to leave a rating and or a comment on the video!!!

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Parallax in the scope
January 10, 2008, 03:50:48 PM
This new scope I put on my savage (notice the lower case 's') is amedium-low grade RedHead 6-24x40 AO. It cost 119.00 from BassPro. It has a ,lot of paralax, meaning the reticle moves a lot on the tarhget when your eye moves. I had the AO set to the correct yardage. I've read a liitle about paralax and am beginning to understand it some. The AO is sopposed to get rid of any paralax if it is adjusted correctly...right? When I am adjusting the Objective should  I go by the yardage numbers on the scope or just by how clear the target is? The clearity of the target is hard for me to tell, sometimes it takes a lot of objective turning to change the clearity.  Or should I move my eye around while turning the objective untill the is the least amount of paralax or should I get a more expensive scope?

OK Here's the deal, I bought a used Sightron SII 6-24x42 for my new Ruger. New they sell for 550.00. I paid 350.00 off Ebay. I get it in the mail very Quick and look it over....I'm happy..it looks GREAT! I mount it on my gun, good looks good ...close to the barrel...clear optics. So everything is going great 'till my brother comes over and has is new gun with a temporary Simmons 8-32x44 scope mounted untill his Leupold comes. Well were comparing guns side by side.... The DANG SCOPES ARE IDENTICAL!!!!!! We take off the caps and the writing is perfectly the same The NITROGEN PORTS are identical the lines and manufacturings are identical.............THIS IS A SIMMONS!!!!!!!! WHAT THE HECK??? I never really heard off Sightron before I bought it, but I did some research and though they were OK...Maybe not as good as a Leupold but close. Is this just a high end Simmons? It's definitly related!!!

FIREARMS & OPTICS / I think I NEED a new rifle!
December 31, 2007, 03:21:26 PM
Well this is gett'n crazy or someting!? I've just bought this Ruger M77 Target Rifle and have not even shot it yet. I've had it for about 2-3 weeks and am waiting for the new scope to come in the mail. I was punching paper in my back yard yesterday at about 42 yards with my hunting .22 (Rem. 597) The groups weren't good. About 1.5 inches at 42 yards. The trigger is horrible! I never realized how bad it was! I guess an ameture doesn't realize it when he's just hunt'n stuff in the woods, but when I'm trying to keep my groups tight, MAN IT SUCKS! So any way I blew through 100 rounds of Stinger and Yellow Jackets in about 1 hour. If I shoot that many rounds through my new .204 Ruger, it's gonna cost me a small fortune to have a good time. I'm thinking I need to get a nice rimfire target rifle. I like the Savage model 93's .17 HMR with the thumb hole stocks. ( I don't really care for Savages, but I probably could if I owned one). What do you guys think for a new rimfire target rifle for under $350-400?

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Brand new Ruger m77 Mark 2 Target
December 27, 2007, 04:45:45 PM
Well I just bought a new Ruger Mark 2 Target rifle in the .204 ruger cartrige. I've had it for about 3 weeks and have not yet even shot it, because I'm waiting on my scope from e-bay. But the reason I bought it was because my brother (who is probably more of a rifleman than I am) has just ordered a Savage model 12 Precision Varminter in a 22-250. From what I read on the web, his gun will out shoot mine. Not by much at all, but by some. about 1/4-1/2 inch. What can I do to make it shoot better and keep a tighter group, than his Savage? He reloads and I do not. Is that a big deal? Can I buy the most expensive ammo and be as good as his? Has anyone had any expierence with this Ruger? Thankyou for your comments and interest, and I hope I enjoy this site as much as you'll!!
