FIREARMS & OPTICS / Putting a rifle scope on a shotgun?
December 07, 2008, 09:52:23 AM
I got a mount for my Rem. 870 and put a rifle 8X scope on it, from what I understand the only difference between a rifle scope and a shotgun scope is that the rifle scopes have less eye relief?? is this right?

Quote from: gitano;76785Depends on the weight and composition of the projectile (pellet). Simply put, "Yes".

I've seen 1600 advertised for 17 caliber, ultra-light-weight pellets.

AIR GUNS / Fastest Airgun?
April 03, 2008, 01:52:51 PM
I used to have a Remington that would zip a pellet 1000 fps, but my buddy just got a Beeman that pushes 1200 fps.

I was wondering if there is any pellet guns going 1200+ fps?

Quote from: Sonwatcher;76703I personally think the big affect is the enormous amount of doe being allowed to be killed off. As long as there are tags left you can send for one right after another. Now take into consideration all the fawns that these does are impregnated with that are never born. BIG number ! This has to have a major affect on the deer population since the doe season was laid wide open.

Quote from: LvrLover;76658Didn't you guys have some new antler restrictions put in effect? That would account for the lower buck harvest. Also have heard some people don't like the restrictions so they just quit hunting. Maybe I'm thinking of another state.

Yes we have an antler restriction of 4 points on one side, northern counties are 3 points on one side. This has defiantly had an impact on the size of the bucks. Ive seen more big bucks this year than any other year.

WHITETAIL / Too many deer being killed?
April 01, 2008, 06:18:49 PM
Alright so here in Pennsylvania we had a total kill of 323,070 down 11% from last year. The bucks were down 19% and the does down 5%.

2005-2006 harvest of 354,390
2004-2005 harvested 409,320
2003-2004 harvested 464,890
2002-2003 harvested 517,529
2001-2002 harvested 486,014
2000-2001 harvested 301,379

Over the last 6 years we been on a down trend, don't you think that when this happens the PA game commission should put a limit to how many does you can kill? I know a lot of people who kill 10-20 doe a SEASON. Yes it is appropriate to keep control of the population, but it is not right to kill off the deer until they are hard to find when trying to hunt. Then in some counties like Allegheny County where I used to live (home of Pittsburgh) there are 3 seasons JUST TO KILL DOES, all because of people complaining about hitting deer and deer eating there gardens.....well thats life, deer need to eat and live also, not just humans.

Please tell me im not crazy!!!:Banghead:

SMALL GAME / Re: Rabbit with tapeworms-- eat or no?
January 22, 2008, 08:24:08 PM

This is exactly what I seen but not that big.....imagine having that thing in you!!

Most Human Tapeworm infestations appear asymptomatic and often go unnoticed. If left unchecked, these Human Tapeworms can get into muscle tissue and organs and form cysts causing diseases like Cysticercosis, Neurocysticercosis, and Alveolar Hydatid Disease (AHD).

Adult tapeworms appear to cause very few clinical problems in dogs. However, this is the real point of concern since infected people are not as lucky. Alveolar hydatid disease in humans, caused by Echinococcus multilocularis, is a very serious infection that usually involves the liver. Early in the course of the infection, patients may be misdiagnosed with other liver ailments. Involvement of other tissues, including the lungs and brain can also occur. Since over 50% of people with alveolar hydatid disease die, this is considered the most lethal worm infection that people get. It is therefore important for all dogs and cats in high-risk areas be screened for tapeworm infection

So from what I understand if I were to gut this rabbit and and eggs got on my hand and I touched my mouth, eye....... i could be infected and possibly get a disease or possibly even die.

Buts heres a picture of the other rabbit I kept today. Im goin back out  tommarow so we have enough for some  hossenfefer

SMALL GAME / Rabbit with tapeworms-- eat or no?
January 22, 2008, 10:50:02 AM
I went hunting today with my dad. I got 2 rabbits in a few hours, but one rabbit had 2 tapeworms that I could notice. One was in its intestine and was about 4 inches long...YUCK.  The other one was about an inch. I said no way and nailed the rabbit to a tree in my back yard for some varmits.

Should I eat the rabbit next time
? I was afraid to after seeing these pretty large tapeworms.

Heres a picture of some rabbits me and my brother shot on Jan 4. Man they were some good eatin!

I started with a bow about 2 years ago, Last year I didn't get to get a buck with my bow, but this season I was all prepared for archery season and it just felt like it would all pay off. Me and my 2 buddy's shot bows about 6 days a week all summer.I went to 3-D archery shoots all summer also with my two buddy's, every Sunday we would rough it and wake up at 7 am. Well all that paid off for all 3 of us.

My buck^  11- point     17 inch spread       very thick and heavy rack.(prolly from the cornfield which i shot him in) Shot in evening at sharply 5:00 pm in Sarver, Pennsylvania in a corn field corner next to woods. Shot at 23 yards, died 60 yards away.

My first archery buck and also my biggest buck

11-point (first buck)                   11-point                           8-point

These are my bucks all shot by people I know, my bucks in the middle...the real tall one ^( We had to load up all the racks and ride around in show people.....people were amazed)  All the buck in the truck were shot within a week and a half ( no there not full deer they are caped out or just antlers besides 1 deer killed the day of this picture.

All I know is that this was a fun / exciting season that I will remember for the rest of my life.   Thumbs up to that:biggthumpup:
