Here is a pic from a 26 lb buck caught on a herring on one of our Oregon coastal rivers. First cast out and just started trolling and.....Fish on!!  Was there on the river maybe 10 seconds then of course we did not get a single bite the rest of the day but still got to bring some meat home!

Take care,

THE FISHING LURE / WooHoo!! Our fall run is starting!!
September 08, 2005, 01:27:07 PM
Well....after a looong and dry summer our fall salmon run is starting to pick up! While it is not hot fishing yet we did manage to get 2 fish for 3 trips out in the coastal tidewater's here in Oregon.

My Dad caught his first fall salmon yesturday (23 lber) and I got to put first blood in the new drift boat this past week, not huge fish but they were bright!

I will try to post some pics as soon as I get the film back. Hope your all having a great fishing season!

Take care,

Well....for me it was the weight thing that caused me to go back to a "regular hunting rifle" (Sporter version) I tried the Remington Sendero SF in the 300 RUM but it did get too heavy to pack around after just short hikes. You have to remember that after adding things like scopes and bi-pods, ammo and whatever else you add can make that 8-10 lb gun a 12 lb'er in a hurry.

I love to shoot the heavy stuff at the range or when sticking really close to the hunting rig but if you see any distance walking in your future then it gets real heavy in a hurry. One thing that really made me change back to the sporter version was the accuracy is not any better with the heavy barreled version for most hunting situations, now if you are doing lots of repeat firing like at yotes and other varmints then the barrel does not heat up as quickly as their smaller cousins but for most big game hunting I found my sporter gun did everything I needed it to.

Good luck and hope this helps some!

Our Salmon/Steelhead season has been very much bad this year, I am waiting for the fall Salmon run to start (if it ever starts) But I still try to check in here on the site when I get the chance.

Hope everyone is having a great summer so far!

Well....I dont have any pics but here in Oregon I have seen a lot of people using the waggons you buy at yard maintinance places like Lowes or Home Depot or I have even seen them at Wal-Mart.

They seem to work pretty good because of their large tire size's. Here folks use them for hauling their crab traps out to the end of our docks on the coast. If I do any more fishing from the docks here thats what I plan to get.

Nice pics! I went out today in the big blue here in Oregon and did some bottom fishing but did not do as well as you did! We came back to land with a few seabass and some other bottom fish, did some crabbing as well. Was a slow day but still a great day on the salt!

WOW.....that sounds like a blast! I bet Silvers in that size would put up a good fight.

I would like to make it up there some day! I just bought a drift boat and would like to try out some new fishing areas, Maybe one of these days I can put a trip together.

Kaninbal,

I fish the South Santiam river mainly for Springers and the Asea, Yaquina and Siletz rivers and their bays for fall. The Spring run was terrible this year, last year things were good and the fall run was good to me considering the few trips I maid it out.

Summer Silvers I bet are a blast? I only wish we had Silvers around here...if we get one on our line we have to cut em loose unless we are fishing in the OC and the fish is fin clipped.

No one here knows what happend this spring but its been very disapointing. I just hope it will be back to normal this next season! I miss smoking up all that fresh Springer! I hope you folks up North get a good fall season...how soon do you start to see the fish during the fall? Ours should start showing up in Sept-October (if everything goes well)

Hmmm.....does'nt sound like we here in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest are the only ones with low fish numbers, I just hope it gets better soon! I am going to miss all the big Salmon grilling on the BBQ this summer!!

So far this year has been a total bust exept on one trip out so I just hope fall will be better, Hope your all having a great Spring so far! Talk at ya all later.

Well here in Oregon its been the worst Springer season in the past 50 years (or so they tell us) It's been tough this year, the Spring run is coming to an end but it does not feel like it ever got started!

I hope the fall run will be better but I am not going to hold my breath, The steelhead season has been pretty slow as well but a bit better than the Salmon run. I was curious to hear how you folks up north did this spring and if the fall outlook is good?

Take care All,
