Hi guys,

Just bought a Dutch Mannlicher M95 Long Rifle but the stock is cracked (refer to picture). What will be the best way to repair the crack. Will epoxy be the answer. As the stock is cracked it really has no collector value so I plan to restore the wood and blue the metal.

Thank you in advance.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Tikka T3 in 8x57IS
December 15, 2009, 05:31:13 PM
Hi Guys,

Don't know whether you guys knew but Tikka has the T3s in 8x57. I saw them on the Cleavers website and then proceeded to go to the company site and yes that is the case.

Now I know I have not been keen on them as I own a LSA65 which is a more solid rifle with no plastic but I'll get over it quickly and must say a Tikka in8x57 is a very real proposition with great accuracy potential. I will start to save my pennies and hopefully will have one soon. Don't know if I''ll go for the LH Hunter wood & blued or the LH Lite stainless. Unfortunately it's going to have to be a left hand rifle (limited choice), my first. I've had enough of ill fitting right handed stocks and actions. I would have purchased the laminated stainless if it was offered in left hand.

Hi guys,

I can't decide betweeen two rifle for a 9.3x62 project. There is a $40 difference between them. The mauser is in 30-06 and the Win is in 270 win. I plan on rebarrelling to 9.3x62 with a MAB barrel. The Win has a model 70 action but it has a side safety not the traditional safety and it has a blind magazine. The Mauser in a FN with a Ramline synthetic stock, timney trigger, no safety, no open sights and scope. The Win has rings but no scope, has open sights. The scope is of no consequence as I would get a new scope for either rifle.

Your thoughts. I am leaning towards the Win. I have to move quick before they go.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Ruger Stock to fit K98
October 28, 2009, 05:58:00 PM
Hi guys,

Stupid question but would it be possible to modify a ruger M77 wood stock to fit a K98 barrelled action. Reason I ask is that I can get a cheap ruger stock that is better looking than the crappy one I've got on my mauser.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / New Rifles
October 19, 2009, 03:42:30 AM
Hi Guys,

I just purchased a couple of of rifles a week ago from a fellow who is 73 years old and will be handing in his license so he sold me the rifles and left them with me. When I get my PTA's I will be mailing them to him for signing and then he'll mail them back to me. Both rifles look like they need a bit a of TLC and hadn't had an oil or a clean for a while.

The first one is a Dutch Mannlicher Hembrug 1919 in 6.5x54R (.256 Mannlicher). It's a nice handy carbine with a slick action. The bolt feels is heavy and very solid. The bore is about 6/10. I have made some cases with a 6.4x54 MS dies I have. Will have to excuse the rough finish as I cut them with a small tube cutter as I don't have a case trimmer. Just ordered them from eBay so will have a proper one soon. I have included photos of the cases and one with a 303 case next to them. I will be ordering some projectiles so I can load some test rounds. I want to buy some clips for the Dutch Mannlicher, so if any of you guys in the U.S. see some please let me know and I will send you the money for cost and postage to you so you can buy them and post them to me. Have not been able to locate any here in Oz. Will need about 4 as I want to have a crack in the military shoots with the Dutch Mannlicher.

The other rifle is a BSA Martini Cadet in 310 Cadet. The bore is in very good condition. I also got 59 rounds, including 50 Kynoch rounds which I have taken a pictures of the original box. Can't wait to shoot it. It has some surface rust which I will try some oil and 0000 steel wool on it.

Here are the pictures.

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Potuguese Mauser Project
September 28, 2009, 11:01:19 PM
Hi Guys,

A while back I was fiddling with my portuguese mauser to try to mount a scout scope. I think Paul mentioned I could use a loctite of some kind to glue the sights base on. That would probably work fine without the weight of a mount and scout scope.

No I've tried a few things with no success. Now I've decided to mount the weaver rail directly on to the barrel. The rail has a round contour that hugs the barrel nicely but I don't know what to fuse it with so it stays on the barrel, especially when the rail is made of aluminium and coloured black. I bought some semi permanent loctite do you think I could use the permanent stuff. Don't care much for the barrel as I'm planning to rebarrel in the future but need a shooter for the moment.

Need some help please.

Cheers

RELOADING / HXP 303 British Cases
September 07, 2009, 06:26:37 PM
Hi Guys,

Just bought 200 once fired HXP 303 British cases. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this ammo/cases for reloading. They look pretty good and are of similar quality to sporting ammo cases.

Got this email from Dave at CH4D.

The first act of any tyrannical Government is to register the guns owned by citizens

HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009

Please send this to everybody on your list...
This is Obamanation gun control by secrecy.

Very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the House.

This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009.

We just learned yesterday about this on the Peter Boyles radio program.
Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because it is flying under the radar..
To find out about this - go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information.

Basically this "little" piece of legislation would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:

.It is registered
.You are fingerprinted
.You supply a current Driver's License
.You supply your Social Security #
.You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing
.Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25
- Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Guns must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.

The Government would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. In prison.

It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people are becoming aware of this. Passthe word along.

Peter Boyles is on this and having guests. Listen to him on KHOW 630 a.m. In the morning.

He suggests the best way to fight this is to tell all your friends about it and "spring into action".
Also he suggests we all join a pro-gun group like the Colorado Rifle Association, hunting associations, gun clubs JPFO (JEWS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF FIREARMS OWNERSHIP) and especially the GOA and NRA..

This is just a "termite" approach to complete confiscation of guns and disarming of our society to the point we have no defense - chip away a little here and there until the goal is accomplished before anyone realizes it.

Hi Guys,
Looking at buying a scoped Remington Springfield sporter in 30-06, just wondering how accurate and rugged these rifles are? We don't see many on our shores but looking at goggle you guys have an abundance of them there in the US (of course).
How would they fare against the cheaper sporters in 30-06 like the Mossberg ATR & 4x4, Stevens 200 and the Marlin XL7 in 30-06? And can I easily get replacement stocks if I want to change the one it's got. Can they be rebarrelled to bigger cals other than 35 & 400 Whelen which I have seen them in.
All input would be most appreciated as I don't have a 30 cal in my arsenal yet.
Cheers

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Oil stained stock
March 18, 2009, 03:23:24 PM
Hey guys what would you use to suck the oil out of a military stock.
I plan to restore my Portuguese Mauser. I'm not a collector and I like my rifles looking as good as they can look and the Vergueiros are not as expensive as an argentine or Brazilian mauser.
I also have a Portuguese sporter I want to get the oil off around the action and pistol grip without ruining the wood as it has a tiger pattern.
Rick you are a bit of a gun with the milsurp stocks what do you use to clean those stubborn stains.
Cheers

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Purchasing Barrels
March 10, 2009, 03:15:26 PM
Hi guys,

We had a discussion about barrel exports from the US I think it related to my Enfield No4 MkI which is now a designated tomato stake (I'm still considering your offer Rick of the replacement barrel but I'm a caretaker of this rifle for many years now and my friend and I have not agreed on a sales price as I'm in two minds to hold on to it).

Paul mentioned that barrels are now  a restricted item for exports for businesses but not for individuals. Now with that in mind I have two items of interest at Numrich. They are a Brazilian Mauser 1922 Carbine Reconditioned 19.5" 7 x 57 Barrel for $41.95 with an additional shipping charge of $1 and the other is a Dutch Hembrug Mannlicher Carbine 6.5 x 54R Barrel for $73.45 with an additional shipping charge of $1.

Now is there any chance I can send one of you gentlemen the money (including postage to you and postage to Oz) to purchase these barrels for me and then you would on forward it to me, or would that be too difficult. I would not want any of you to do anything that's not lawful. I would also cover any out of pocket expenses if this is out of your way to do.

Let me know your thoughts as I cannot get barrels for that price here and I have my eye on two carbine projects that these barrels would be perfect for.

Thank you for your assistance on this one.
Cheers

Hi Boys,

I thought you may like this hunter with his game. Pig hunting Northern Territory style... notice the tusks on the pig , not a bad size ... 75 to 95 kilo... notice the height it carries it and the size in relation to the road ... must be 18 or 19 feet long.

RELOADING / Loading 8mm Mauser with lead cast projectiles
February 12, 2009, 02:20:09 PM
Hi guys I’m looking at loading coated lead cast projectiles for the military shoots at my club.
The cost of shooting 30 rounds every time I compete I find a bit rich at $1 a pop. So I’ve decided to go down the track of the cast projectiles. Now my router has died at home so I haven’t had a chance to post anything on the forum and I’m doing this from work so I have to be quick.
Would any of you guys have any recipes for lead cast projectiles that are coated and can probably travel between 1,500fps to 2,300 fps or enough to reach the 300 meter target which is the furthest in the shoots. I’m looking at 170 & 190 grain projectiles. I’m using a Portuguese Mauser Vergueiro.

Your assistance would be most appreciated.

Cheers

FIREARMS & OPTICS / SMLE Barrels
January 07, 2009, 08:28:49 PM
Hi Guys,
Just have a question for the SMLE gurus (Kombi, 22Hornet or BritHunter or any other gun dude out there).

I have a No4 MKI that has a smoothbore (no rifling left) and would serve its purpose only in my wife’s veggie patch as a tomato stake.

Just wondering if can I use a SMLE No1 MkIII barrel on a No4 as I have come across a few 303 wildcat rifles with good barrels but they are all No1 MkIII’s and would like to utilise their barrels.

Cheers

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Replacement of Mauser rear sight
November 20, 2008, 03:02:07 AM
Hi Guys,

I have a Portuguese Mauser barrelled action that  I want to remove the rear sight and replace it with a rear sight from a K98 as I have a nomal/scout scope mount that only suits a K98 rear sight. I cut the barrel behind the front sight and will need to recrown the barrel so I only need to remove the rear sight.

After I have heated the rear sight to melt the solder and proceed to knock out the sight with a brass punch. What do I need to do to ensure the K98 sight sits tight (apart from using electrical tape, just joking Paul)? Do I need to clean the area completely and then just reapply solder? Wouldn't have a clue what to do next.

My old man said I had to put some stuff (can't remember what he called it underneath before I put the solder on so the solder sits tight, or should I just take it to the smith and get them to charge me $90 to $100 to replace remove and replace the sights.

Thank you in anticipation for your feedback.

Cheers

FIREARMS & OPTICS / Ridiculous Gun Laws
November 06, 2008, 02:29:10 PM
Guys,

This is what can happen to in the US if they ban semi autos:

Can't get the photo to come up, it's an add for an AK47, looka t the price.

Calibre:7.62x39
Make: North Korean
Model: Type 58A (AK47 Type 3)
Action: Self loading[
Price:  $9750

This rifle is an early, Milled from solid receiver, AK47. The bore is superb and the blue is very good, function is reported to be as issued. The butt has a ding towards the rear (shown in photo) the rifle is complete with two magazines and cleaning rod.The rifle, having a milled receiver, was almost certainly made in the 1950's. It was a battlefield capture in Vietnam in 1966. The digger who returned with it is no longer contactable to verify precise capture details but is was from the Nui Dat area. The milled receiver models have a reputation for accuracy and were easier to control in full auto than the pressed steel model, AK47M, introduced in 1959. This type of early AK47 sells in the USA for more than A$20,000. RELOADING / Loading Problems with my 303-25
October 12, 2008, 03:44:38 AM
Hi Guys,

I just loaded some 303-25 rounds with 87 grain SPs.

Last time I shot some rounds at the range, which I had loaded, I only checked one round to see if it cycled in the action as the others were pretty much the same length. and it cycled and ejected ok and stayed in one piece.

This time I decided to load the mag in my mauser to see if they cycled and low and behold as I was ejecting the first round it came apart in my magazine. Had to clean the action, magazine and the chamber out. Went back and adjusted my seating die to the lowest setting and ran all the rounds through it included the reloaded round that separated.

Proceeded to cycle the rounds through the action again and it happened again. Now I tried to unscrew the top of the seating die and it didn't budge, butchered the screw a bit  but could not unscrew the top of it.  I've sprayed it with WD40 or CR20 can't remember which to see if it budges, and ledt it overnight to see if it budges.

I can't adjust the die any further, I realise that I may need to seat the projectiles a bit deeper but the die won't budge.

My first thought was that the projectiles may be too short. They are made by this dude on Oz Auctions with recycle 22LR cases, don't know if they are the problem. I had no problems with my first batch and as you saw from my post they shot ok.

My second thought was my rifle may be the problem and how it feeds from the mag. I know when I pull the bolt back and the last round has been ejected I have to push the follower down to close the bolt, is this standard?

I'm also confused about the OAL of the round as Kombi trims his cases to 55mm and my rifle takes the full size cases, just  as long as the 303 Brit. I had no problems with my first batch of loads as I was shooting single rounds and not feeding from the magazine.

Any thoughts.

Cheers

Jorge
